Brotherhood Santísimo Cristo de la Salud
Originally called Brotherhood El Cristo de la Sangre, it was founded in 1882 by Mr. Miguel Jiménez Ontáñez, brotherhood very important since its birth, since in 1884 it already counted with 200 brothers. At first, this crucified was in the Convent of Las Llagas de San Francisco, until its disentailment which would pass to El Salvador’s Church. Between 1920 and 1936 it acted as waitress Mrs. Amparo Molina Guillén. With the reformist boost of the 40’s, by taking part again in the processions under the presidency of Mr. Manuel Guillén Tárraga and the patronage of its waitress Mr. Josefa Guardiola since 1947 and until 1979, which would be restructured once again under the presidency of Cristóbal Abellán and Victoriano Herrero Espí as butler. The brotherhood decided to carry on with the traditions that Ms. Guardiola had created through her long patronage; the five-days celebration, the descent of the statue to the house’s chapel of Mrs. Pepita on Sorrows’ Friday and it was stablished the spinning of the statue when the processional parade passed by the Waitress’ door. After Mrs. Guardiola’s passing, they stopped of descending the Christ to the house, and the spinning was moved a few metres more towards orient, where formerly it was placed the Convento de las Cinco Llagas de San Francisco (current Glorieta Square).

Of cardinal red wool, with a broad pleat at the back, a black velvet hood and a black moiré cord. A design by Mr. Joaquín Vicente Toda.
The standard: the figure of Christ appears in the centre of the standard, embroidered in rich silks of colours over a black cross, surrounded by a net of golden cords, also designed by Joaquín Vicente Toda. It obtained the Handicrafts National Award in 1947. It was realised in the workshops of Rafael Peris from Valencia.
Crowns: an excellent set of crowns, made in pure gold by jewellers from Valencia, in the first decades of the 20th century. A gift by Mrs. Amparo Molina Guillén.
It represents the awful moment of the death of Christ.
Considering the lack of the existence of a complete documentation on chronology and the location of the work, it can be said that the work was made by an anonymous sculptor from the middle of the 18th century, although it has been attributed to several authors, being the last one Francisco María Maggio (1705-1780) by his stylistics affiliation with the ‘Cristo de Jerusalén y Buen Viaje’ from Huelva and the ‘Cristo de la Misericordia’ from Cádiz.
The andas were carved in 1947 in Valencia, in golden and polychromed wood with four metallic lanterns, adorned with red crystals. They were restored in the workshop of Mr. Domingo García from the town of Albatera.
