HISTORICAL REVIEW
With the aim of completing the procession of Holy Thursday, the Brotherhood ordered to the sculptor Mr. Mariano Spiteri in 1982 a paso of mystery: ‘The Coronation of Thorns’. Being replaced in 1984 and after in 1998 by the current image by the same author.
CANONICAL HEADQUARTERS
Canonically erected in the Santiago’s Main Church.
ICONOGRAPHY
It represents the moment of the Coronation of Christ as Jews’ King, with a rustic and martyring crown of thorns.
AUTHOR
It is a work by the Jumilla’s artist Mr. Mariano Spiteri, restorer and religious images maker, he has several works in some towns from the region and bordering towns.
THRONE
It is carved in golden wood, with endings of large mouldings also golden. The throne is illuminated with wax, in four silver candelabra.
TUNIC
The anderos’ tunic is of maroon wool as the sash and hood, the latter carries embroidered the Confraternity’s symbol.
STANDARD
it is an anonymous work from the 19th century, it is made in cream-colour and purple damask with decorations, in the centre it appears an oil by Mariano Spiteri and the trilogo of Christ embroidered in gold.
