HISTORY

It was born in 1848, founded by Mr Roque Molera as a section of the Brotherhood Jesús Nazareno a la Columna. In 1850 it is created the Procession of the Capture, walking since the beginning of the century with a new image for dressing. In 1929, Mrs Rosario Espinosa de los Monteros y González-Conde, orders to the Valencian sculptor Ignacio Pinazo an image of the Captured Jesús which will walk until 1936, year in that it was destroyed. In 1952, under presidency of Mr José López Alonso, the Brotherhood orders the current work by Ignacio Pinazo, which was defrayed by the Festivity Comission of the Honourable Council of Jumilla. In 1967, under presidency of Mr José María Simón it is totally indepent and it becomes the Brotherhood Jesús Prendido.
Since 1989 the Brotherhood Jesús Prendido takes part in the procession of the Holy Burial with an image of the Santísima virgen de la Piedad, property of the family Vicente-Toda, carved by Ignacio Pinazo in 1930. In 1996 it is founded the Brotherhood La Santísima Virgen de la Piedad, so creating the Royal Confraternity Jesús Prendido y Santísima Virgen de la Piedad. In 2003 the Confraternity acquires a new image work by José Ángel Palacios, being replaced in 2005 by the current one by the Murcian Arturo Serra. In 2007 it is created other brotherhood inside the Confraternity for taking part in the Procession of the Resurrected, the Aparición de Jesús Resucitado a la Santísima Virgen María de la Victoria, a work by Arturo Serra.
The title of ‘Royal Confraternity’ was given by His Majesty the King Mr Juan Carlos I in 2000 and since 1990, Her Majesty the Queen Mrs Sofía is the President of the Brotherhood Jesús Prendido.

BROTHERHOOD’S HOUSE

The confraternity has no Brotherhood’s House, keeping all its essentials, together with other brotherhoods, in the building at El Pósito, which the Honourable Council of Jumilla has assigned to the Central Board of Brotherhoods.The images of Jesús Prendido and Santísima Virgen de la Piedad are exhibited to the worship in the Santiago’s Main Church, while the group of Jesús Resucitado and Santísima Virgen de la Victoria are worshiped in the San Antón’s Chapel.
